In the time it took to find a satisfying answer to his question, headroom realized he had always known. Nostalgia is a thing our minds create to remind us that things aren't so bad. Nostalgia is often felt for the childhood, but in an era where time ceases to exist and all of human interaction and performance is happening right this moment, nostalgia is a force that permeates every moment. The difference for missing something that happened long ago and missing something that just happened is whether or not you were there, and more often than not, we spend our time in the past.
Live in the moment.
Live as though humanity exists all at once, and as though everything you've ever felt has been in their hearts since the moment we started feeling.
Because if there is one truth headroom has found in the process of existing separate from humanity but conjoined with human expression, it's that we all feel that way, all the time.
Also, he realized another truth. His name wasn't even Max.
It's Edison.
